Celebrate National Payroll Week
In Your Community

“The Greater Kansas City Chapter is proud to be recognized for our efforts to educate and serve our community. Our members unselfishly gave of their time and efforts to contribute to the education of our city’s youth and several other service projects. We are thankful for the opportunity NPW gives to showcase the dedication of Kansas City ’s payroll community and emphasize the importance of payroll.”
--Casey Knasel, Past President, Greater Kansas City Chapter,
2003 Educational Outreach & Community Service 1 st Place Winner, Local Media Outreach 3 rd Place Winner, Photo Contest 3 rd Place Winner

While getting the payroll industry excited about NPW is important, reaching out to the general public is the real mission of NPW.  Encourage members and fellow citizens in your community to participate in the “GETTING PAID IN AMERICA” online survey (don’t let them forget that it’s their chance to win a paycheck!). There are many other ways to increase public awareness about NPW and the importance of payroll to the general public:

  • A proclamation from your local or state government is one of the best ways to draw attention to National Payroll Week. Make sure your message is magnified at the local level by submitting your proclamation request early.
  • Educate the public about the payroll withholding system and the valuable services you provide in the community.   When workers understand the payroll withholding system, they make better decisions about maximizing their paycheck’s bottom line. You can also help increase public understanding of the payroll process in many ways:
    • NEW!! Be a champion of education!  Volunteer to educate kids in your community on the first "Money Matters" National Education Day, this September 8th.
    • Visit a local library, community center or school. Donate copies of Your Paycheck.
  • Work with the local media (newspapers, radio or TV stations) to get exposure for NPW activities (see Public Relations/Media).
  • Hold an NPW blood drive in your company and invite the entire community to participate.
  • Raise scholarship money for teens through a silent auction.
  • Run, walk or ride in a charitable event while wearing an NPW Polo Shirt.
  • Assist your local public television station with fundraising by offering to answer phones during a pledge week. If the pledge week does not coincide with NPW, make the call during NPW and schedule to be involved with the next pledge event.
  • Organize a food drive for your local food bank, homeless shelter or “Meals on Wheels” program.
  • Volunteer in a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.
  • Organize a clothing drive for a non-profit agency that assists individuals in the Welfare to Work program.
  • Offer to act as a mentor to student business groups.
